Ionizers and Ions
Ionizers, ion generators, or ions (negative
or positive) will not kill germs or permanently remove any odors.
Negative ions allow micron sized particulate
to clump together and help smaller particles get caught in filter systems, or to be drawn
to static hard surfaces in the room. Negative Ion generation is usually a by-product
of corona discharge ozone generation depending upon the type of power source used and the
frequency of the electrical current. Most of our ozone generators produce these
beneficial negative ions.
High Powered Negative Ion Generators are
best suited for filtration systems, where they can increase a filtration system's
efficiency. Ion systems designed for balancing ions are used for the elimination of
static electricity in industrial applications such as web or sheet-fed printing.
Our ozone generators produce some negative
ions like an ion generator, however, ozone is much more functional than a simple ionizer
as ozone has germ killing action with residual effects.
-Ozone generators should not be constructed
with filtration in mind - this leads to high maintenance. Our units do not produce
too many ions, avoiding maintenance problems associated with this dirt collection in some
machines.
Commonly miss-used or miss-represented terms
and phrases:
-"Re-establishing ion levels" - is fancy wording - the ion generation intended for this
beneficial use are used for eliminating static electricity.
-Balancing negative/positive ions or
"balancing ions" would simply mean canceling each other out - with no benefit - other that
reducing static electricity.
